Background of the New Owner

Leiendecker brings significant election administration experience to his new venture. He previously served as Election Director for the city of St. Louis and worked for the Missouri Secretary of State‘s office. Both positions were appointments made by then-Secretary of State Matt Blunt. Leiendecker also owns KNOWiNK, an electronic poll book company, giving him substantial background in election technology.

End of an Era for Dominion

According to the official announcement, Dominion Voting Systems as an entity will cease to exist under the new ownership structure. The press release clearly states: “As of today, Dominion is gone. Liberty Vote assumes full ownership and operational control.” This marks a significant transition for the company that became a household name during the post-2020 election controversy period.

Mission and Vision for Liberty Vote

Leiendecker has outlined an ambitious mission for his new company, emphasizing election security and transparency. “Today, I am proud to announce Liberty Vote — a 100% American-owned election technology company dedicated to restoring trust in our elections,” he stated on the company’s website. He further emphasized that “every vote must be secure, fair, and verifiable” and committed to technology that prioritizes “paper-based transparency, security, and simplicity.”

Legal History and Current Status

Dominion’s recent history includes several high-profile legal victories and settlements related to defamation claims. The company secured a $787 million settlement from Fox News in 2023, followed by a $67 million settlement with Newsmax earlier this year. Most recently, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani reached a confidential settlement in Dominion’s $1.3 billion lawsuit against him.

Interestingly, as part of the acquisition agreement, Liberty Vote officials reportedly asked Dominion to settle several remaining defamation lawsuits against Trump allies. However, at least one prominent case appears to remain active. MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell confirmed recently that he’s unaware of any settlement offers regarding Dominion’s ongoing lawsuit against him.
