Vantage Expands San Antonio Data Center Footprint with New TX22 Facility

Data center operator Vantage has filed a new Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) application with the state of Texas to develop another facility in San Antonio, marking the company’s continued aggressive expansion in the region. This latest filing comes as Vantage expands its San Antonio data center footprint across multiple campuses, demonstrating the company’s strategic commitment to the growing Texas market.

The new project, designated TX22, will be located at 5207 Rogers Road in Bexar County and is described as a 214,525 square foot (19,930 square meter), two-story data center. Construction on the $272 million project is scheduled to run from October 2025 until June 2027, with Corgan listed as the project’s design firm. This development represents another significant investment in San Antonio’s burgeoning data center ecosystem.

Strategic Campus Development in San Antonio

Vantage’s expansion in San Antonio follows a clear pattern of strategic land acquisition and phased development. The company purchased 31 acres on the north corner of State Highway 151 and Wiseman Boulevard in August 2023, immediately beginning development of its campus at this location. In November 2023, Vantage filed to develop TX21, a 360,000 square foot (33,445 square meter), three-story data center at the same 5207 Rogers Road address. That $157 million project was scheduled to begin construction in December 2023 for a June 2025 launch date, though it remains unclear if that facility has launched yet.

The company’s development strategy extends beyond the Rogers Road campus. Last month, Vantage filed to develop another facility at its other campus in the city. The TX12 project, to be located at 17420 Omicron Drive in Bexar County, will be a two-story building with up to 96MW of critical IT capacity across 432,800 square feet (40,208 square meters). The $276.8 million project is scheduled to run from October 2025 until August 2027.

Omicron Drive Campus Expansion

Vantage’s Omicron Drive campus represents another significant investment hub for the company. The company acquired land along Omicron Drive in July 2023 from the University of Texas System Board of Regents, quickly moving to develop the property. In December 2023, Vantage filed for another data center at the campus – TX11 – a 32MW two-story building spanning 242,665 square feet (22,545 square meters) set to go live in early 2026.

This rapid development timeline highlights Vantage’s aggressive growth strategy in the San Antonio market. The company has yet to make any formal announcements about its projects in San Antonio, maintaining a relatively low profile despite the substantial investments being made across multiple campuses.

San Antonio’s Growing Data Center Ecosystem

Both Vantage campuses are strategically located near a large Microsoft campus at 15000 Lambda Drive, where the company recently completed another 79,385 square foot (7,375 square meter) data center known as SAT46. This clustering of data center development creates a significant technology hub in the San Antonio area, attracting additional investment and talent to the region.

The competitive landscape in San Antonio’s data center market continues to intensify. CloudHQ, CyrusOne, and QTS are also looking to develop in the Texas Research Park, while Amazon is planning three data centers in the San Antonio area. This concentration of development activity comes as treasury yields inch lower as investors weigh trading opportunities in infrastructure and technology sectors.

Vantage’s Broader Texas Expansion Strategy

Beyond San Antonio, Vantage is developing a massive campus outside Abilene in Shackelford County. The 1.4GW Frontier Campus will span 1,200 acres and host approximately 10 data centers totaling 3.7 million square feet (343,741 square meters). Construction on the campus has already begun, with the first building scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2026.

The Frontier Campus is set to host one of OpenAI’s Stargate data centers, delivered in partnership with Oracle, highlighting the growing importance of advanced computing infrastructure. This development aligns with broader industry trends, including the emergence of Equinix-backed microreactor firm Radiant planning construction of innovative power solutions for data centers.
