TITLE: Surfshark Adds Dedicated IP to Browser Extensions
Surfshark Expands Dedicated IP Feature to Browser Extensions
Surfshark has expanded its Dedicated IP feature to include browser extensions, making this optional add-on available across all its platforms. This move brings the browser extension functionality in line with Surfshark’s desktop and mobile applications, offering users greater flexibility in how they secure their online activities.
What Dedicated IP Brings to Browser Extensions
The addition means Surfshark users on Chrome, Firefox, and Edge extensions can now enjoy the benefits of a dedicated IP address while maintaining the VPN’s security protection. A dedicated IP provides users with their own unique, static IP address that remains consistent across browsing sessions.
According to Surfshark’s Senior Product Manager Justas Pukys, “A dedicated IP provides a consistent IP address for each browsing session, making it ideal for securely accessing private servers or corporate remote access systems. Unlike a standard VPN connection, which provides a shared IP address that changes with each session, a dedicated IP offers exclusive use.”
Key Advantages of Using Dedicated IP
Reduced CAPTCHA Interruptions: Dedicated IP addresses significantly minimize the frequency of those annoying CAPTCHA verification requests that often plague shared IP users. Websites recognize the consistent, trusted identity and are less likely to flag traffic as suspicious.
Access to Restricted Services: Many government websites, online banking services, and other platforms that typically block shared IP addresses become more accessible with a dedicated IP. The consistent identification makes it easier to use services that require stable IP addresses.
Avoiding IP Blacklisting: Shared IP addresses can sometimes get blacklisted due to other users’ activities. A dedicated IP eliminates this risk, ensuring reliable access to all your essential services.
Browser Extension vs. Full VPN App
It’s important to understand that Surfshark’s browser extension operates differently from its full VPN applications:
- Browser-Only Protection: The extension secures only your browser traffic, not traffic from other applications on your device
- No Kill Switch: Unlike the desktop app, the browser extension doesn’t include a kill switch feature
- No MultiHop Access: The extension doesn’t provide access to Surfshark’s MultiHop servers for additional security layers
Global Coverage and Availability
Surfshark now offers Dedicated IP locations across 20 major cities in 15 countries, including:
- United States: Dallas, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, San Jose
- United Kingdom: London
- Canada: Toronto
- Australia: Sydney
- Germany: Frankfurt
- Japan: Tokyo
- Singapore: Singapore
The Dedicated IP feature is available to all Surfshark subscribers for an additional $3.75 per month. Users can add it through their Surfshark account or by clicking the “Get Dedicated IP” button within the apps and extensions.
This expansion follows Surfshark’s initial Dedicated IP launch on Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS apps in 2023, as previously covered in technology security reports. The browser extension integration represents the latest step in Surfshark’s ongoing effort to provide comprehensive security solutions across all user platforms.
